What is Lexia PowerUp Literacy?

Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for 6–12 students of all abilities. Lexia’s research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in three instructional strands: (1) Word Study, (2) Grammar, and (3) Comprehension. Vocabulary is organically woven throughout all three strands. PowerUp targets skill gaps as they emerge and provides teachers with the data and student-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction.

What is the Ohio Dyslexia Handbook?

According to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce website, it “contains best practices and methods for universal screening, intervention and remediation for children with dyslexia or children displaying dyslexic characteristics and tendencies. Districts and schools should use the guidebook to access critical information for successful implementation of Ohio's dyslexia support laws.”

How do these two align?

PowerUp meets the Handbook’s critical, evidence-based components including:

• Delivery of Dyslexia Instruction: Explicit and systematic instruction
• Structured Language and Literacy (SLL): Phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, oral language, text reading fluency, and reading comprehension
• Essential Instructional Skills: Small-group work, immediate corrective feedback, multiple practice opportunities, repeated reading, partner reading, teacher modeling, vocabulary, movement/manipulatives, discussion, and more.
