Overlooked and Misdiagnosed: Developmental Language Disorder
That students struggle to articulate what they’ve just read can be an indication they have Developmental Language Disorder. If students remain undiagnosed, they run the risk of academic failure, impaired social-emotional development, poor life quality, increased criminal activity, and higher rates of suicide. It is a serious condition that requires expertise to diagnose by a speech-language pathologist or other specialist who reviews standardized tests, observations, and language history.
