How to Support Teachers Now: Three Ways to Reduce Teacher Burnout and Promote Success
As teachers face continuing challenges, leading many to burn out, K–12 leaders are tasked with identifying concrete and immediate strategies for supporting teachers and staff to help them be most effective in their roles.
Reducing teacher burnout, limiting staff attrition, and creating an environment where educators can do their jobs effectively requires much more than just quick-fix solutions. Eventually, to staff schools adequately with qualified teachers, district and policy leaders will need to make widespread changes to improve teachers’ working conditions, resulting in higher pay, more respect, and a greater focus on employee well-being.
Three immediate actions administrators can take right now include:
- Provide flexible classroom resources so teachers can be more effective
- Support teachers with targeted professional learning
- Advocate for teachers and provide a culture of support
