Confident Teachers Create Successful Readers
Strong literacy skills are essential to students’ academic success across all areas of the curriculum. While 95% of students can learn to read, research shows that only 34% of fourth-grade students (and 32% of eighth-grade students) read proficiently (NAEP, 2019).
This gap predates the pandemic but intensified over the last two years with the loss of instructional time. To combat this, teachers are doing their best to accelerate student learning, so we must give them better support and tools to identify their students’ needs and provide personalized instruction.
