[Testimonial] Core5 Supports LETRS-Trained Teachers (Without Taking Away Their Autonomy)
With skills gaps emerging after the pandemic, educators at Louisiana’s Lafayette Parish School System knew their students needed something more to advance their literacy skills.
Catherine Guillory, the district’s Elementary ELA, Library Science (K–5) specialist, looked for solutions that would make the districts’ LETRS-trained teachers even more effective. She wanted a resource that would track student performance across grades, and that would help teachers intervene and teach to specific literacy skills when students needed more support.
The answer: Lexia® Core5® Reading, an Adaptive Blended Learning solution for pre-K–5 students that features the myLexia® educator platform to track student progress at the classroom, school, and district levels.
“The data dashboard is very easy for teachers to use,” Guillory says. “It just kind of takes a lot of the guesswork out of it for the teacher … It’s exactly what they need in the exact time that they need it.”
Equipping the district’s Lexia LETRS-trained teachers with science of reading-based Core5 allowed them to remain at the center of the classroom without taking away their autonomy or personal connection with students.
With the science of reading knowledge they acquired in LETRS, Lafayette Parish’s educators found Core5 to be just what they needed to continue to advance students’ literacy skills—and they now have the data to back it up.
“The fact that we can start a child in pre-K and track that progress all the way through eighth grade was a really big benefit for me,” Guillory says. “The other thing that I really like about it is it gave the kids really quick feedback about themselves.”
