Hopeful: The Science of Reading's Impact on Educators and Students
When it comes to the science of reading, educators often share personal reactions when discussing the profound difference it has made for them and their students.
For Sydney Azzi of National Heritage Academies, that reaction sparks hope.
“What is one word you think of when you think of the science of reading?” she asks during this powerful video. “For me, it’s hopeful. When I started my journey of taking LETRS and understanding more of the science of reading and really digging into what it takes for brains to learn to read, I realized just how hopeful it can be for these kids.”
Azzi joined charter school educators from across the country for a Lexia® Science of Reading Summit. During the event, they detailed their successes with the science of reading and how Lexia has given them confidence in their classrooms.
“I trust Lexia because I trust the people who guide me. I trust the people who wrote the programs because they don’t tell me what to do, they tell me why,” says Melanie Smith of Somerset Academy. “Kids ask, ‘Why?’ all the time, and I think it’s important for teachers to know.”
