Washington Educators Turn to Evidence-Based Instruction for Literacy Intervention and Acceleration
The right Structured Literacy-based reading resource can help educators and students improve literacy test scores without adding more work to teachers’ already full plates.
Washington educators are using Lexia® Core5® Reading to help all students—including Emergent Bilinguals, students working toward proficiency, on-level and above-level students—boost their reading achievement with targeted, differentiated instruction. During the 2022–2023 school year, 85% of students who used Core5 with fidelity advanced at least one grade level of material.
Educators agree, Core5 is making a difference in Washington.
“Lexia Core5 Reading is a game changer for reading instruction. The analytics provided by the program quickly give me the information I need to deliver targeted instruction. My students love improving their reading skills quickly with Core5,” teacher Patti Guthrie said.
Rebecca Matthews, a kindergarten teacher at Tehaleh Heights Elementary School agrees, “I absolutely love Lexia. I have a student who uses Lexia English, and all of my students use Lexia Core5 Reading! I appreciate the differentiation and that there are printable resources that I can incorporate in my daily instruction.”
School leaders also see the benefits to teachers. “The additional tools provided by Core 5 are appreciated by teachers, as they can deliver targeted mini lessons based on individual student needs. The program's flexibility also allows teachers to work with small groups while students receive timely practice and assessment of foundational reading skills,” Darla Offner, elementary director of curriculum at Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, said.
