PowerUp Elevates Secondary Literacy Instruction In Caroline County

Challenges:

• Hitting reading intervention goals for students in Tier 2 instead of moving to Tier 3.
• Finding a literacy program that 1) aligns to the science of reading, 2) is accessible, interesting, and engaging for secondary students, 3) offers resources for educators.

Renee Hesson of Caroline County Public Schools in Maryland was alarmed by how many students were stuck in Tier 2 reading interventions—and risked being moved to Tier 3.
