Lexia Fits the Bill: Meeting the Requirements of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Literacy Legislation
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has given the thumbs-up to Lexia® Core5® Reading, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®, and the Lexia® LETRS® Suite as approved high-quality instructional materials and professional development to support Ohio educators.
Core5, for pre-K–5 students, and PowerUp, for 6–12 students, meet the legislative requirements of the department’s supplemental foundational skills and reading intervention programs with their science of reading-based approaches. Core5 and PowerUp emphasize:
- The power of the science of reading
- Equity for all students can be achieved through literacy
- Teacher knowledge and proven instructional resources are keys to success
- Data-driven reading instruction is critical to meeting student needs and effectiveness
Additionally, Lexia® LETRS® for Early Childhood Educators, Lexia LETRS, and Lexia® LETRS® for Administrators meet the requirements of Ohio House Bill 33 and Ohio House Bill 436, both aimed at providing professional development to educators in the science of reading and for identifying and instructing students with dyslexia.
Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy to provide early childhood and elementary educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading, the LETRS Suite teaches the skills needed for foundational and fundamental reading and writing instruction.
