Lexia Core5 Reading Fits the Bill: Meeting the requirements of the ODEW’s literacy legislation
Lexia® Core5® Reading has earned the official endorsement of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) as a high-quality instructional material (HQIM), fully aligning with Ohio’s literacy legislation and the state’s science of reading requirements.
Core5 delivers explicit, systematic instruction across all key reading areas, including phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This evidence-based program is designed to boost literacy for pre-K–5 students and support foundational reading skills, with additional dyslexia support included.
Core5 enhances existing curricula by providing targeted interventions for students needing extra help, equipping districts and schools to meet Ohio's legislative mandates. The program adapts to various instructional settings and integrates seamlessly with other core curricula in Ohio schools. Through data-driven insights, Core5 helps educators make informed decisions to improve student progress and literacy outcomes.
Beginning in the 2024–2025 school year, Ohio districts and schools must use science of reading-based English Language Arts curricula and interventions from the state’s approved list, and Core5 fits these criteria. With the launch of the Read Ohio initiative, Core5 supports Ohio educators in delivering Structured Literacy instruction to help students catch up to grade-level work, aligning with the state’s commitment to improving literacy proficiency for all students.
