Closing Literacy Skill Gaps with Intentional Implementation
For educators in this rural district, closing literacy gaps wasn’t just a goal—it was a necessity. With Lexia® Core5® Reading, they've built a strong, intentional approach that’s helping students grow and giving teachers the support they need to make it happen.
Executive Director of Elementary and Federal Programs Jason Griffin shares how Core5 has provided the right tools to fill skill gaps and drive results. During the past five years, end-of-grade scores have consistently improved, and teachers now feel empowered to use real-time data to adjust their instruction and meet each student’s needs.
District leaders took a hands-on approach with elementary coaches guiding teachers through onboarding and ongoing support. This intentional focus on professional development helped educators embrace Core5’s insights, leading to meaningful changes in the classroom.
An unexpected win? Core5’s alignment with Lexia® LETRS® Professional Learning. Teachers found that their understanding of the science of reading made Core5’s Structured Literacy approach even more impactful—connecting the dots between theory and practice.
With 90% of students who met Core5 usage goals now reading at or above grade level, the district’s success proves that with the right support, every student has the potential to thrive. Their journey shows what’s possible with the right tools and a commitment to growth.
