Lexia Core5 Reading for Florida - Scope and Sequence
Florida administrators, read and download the Lexia Core5 Reading for Florida—Scope and Sequence.
Lexia® Core5® Reading provides a systematic and structured approach to six critical areas of reading. The program creates personalized learning paths for students of all abilities through an adaptive placement and scaffolded activities that align to rigorous standards.
In this Scope and Sequence, find out how various units of instruction cover the six separate aspects of literacy teaching: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, automaticity/fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Also, learn how Level 1 (pre-K) to Level 21 (highest level for fifth grade) directly address each of the six critical areas.
For example, phonological awareness starts with Level 1 Rhyming in pre-K; to Blending & Segmenting, Syllables & Sounds, Beginning Sounds, Ending Sounds, Short & Long Vowel Sounds, and Manipulating Sounds in Levels 2–5 (kindergarten); proceeding to Short & Long Vowel Sounds and Manipulating Sounds (substitutions) in Levels 6–9 (grade 1); and finally to Manipulating Sounds (additions & deletions) in Levels 10–12 (grade 2).
Past second grade, phonological awareness is mainly replaced by Structural Analysis (which starts in second grade with Simple Suffixes and Prefixes), which proceeds to Prefix & Suffix Meanings, Spelling Rules for Adding, Affixes, Word Analysis Strategies, Morphological Awareness, and Context Clues in Levels 13–15 (grade 3); to Root, Prefix & Suffix Meanings, Spelling Rules for Adding Affixes, Word Analysis Strategies, Morphological Awareness, and Context Clues in Levels 16–18 (grade 4); and finally to Accent Placement, Prefix & Suffix Meanings, Greek Combining Forms, Word Analysis Strategies, Morphological Awareness, and Context Clues for Levels 19–20 (grade 5).
