Case Study of Kindergarten Students Advancing Through Core5 Levels
PURPOSE: In this case study, the researchers investigated the in-program progress made by a group of kindergarten students using Lexia® Core5® Reading. The study aimed to identify components or features of Core5 that promote growth and remediation of the students’ early literacy skills.
METHOD: The researchers tracked the in-program progress made by a classroom of kindergarten students who used Core5 for half a school year. They were interested in discovering whether the program adequately remediated and challenged the students. The analysis highlighted two contrastive students who began the study working below grade level in Core5.
KEY FINDINGS
- Fourteen of the kindergarten students began working in Core5 at grade level, while four students began working below grade level—at a preschool level—in Core5.
- Of the two students highlighted in the study, one progressed smoothly from a preschool level to kindergarten level with just online instruction and practice.
- In contrast, the other student took much longer to advance out of a preschool level, requiring teacher-led instruction coupled with Lexia Lessons® to move into kindergarten levels.
