Elementary Schools See Literacy Success Across the District
A district’s implementation of Lexia® Core5® Reading has transformed literacy outcomes across three elementary schools, demonstrating the impact of personalized learning and data-driven instruction.
Core5 provides educators with real-time insights at the classroom, school, and district levels, empowering teachers to adjust instruction in response to student needs. As Principal Kathleen Quain of Morton Elementary explains, the program allows teachers to individualize learning while helping students achieve success: “If you want a program that will personalize learning and provide your teachers with data to drive instruction, then Core5 is for you.”
The adoption of Core5 has contributed to remarkable improvements in student performance and school rankings. Within a year, the district moved from the 50th percentile to the 87th percentile in state rankings across English language arts, math, social studies, and science. Two schools were recognized for “Beating the Odds” by exceeding predicted outcomes, while the third school advanced from the 82nd to the 95th percentile, ranking among the top 5% of state schools.
Core5’s effectiveness is evident in student achievement as well. The number of students working on grade-level material grew from 36% to 88%, with 71% meeting end-of-year literacy benchmarks. Principal Jennie Leishman from Washington Elementary notes that beyond academic growth, the program has boosted student confidence, helping them become stronger readers. With a demonstrated alignment to state assessments, Core5 provides educators with reliable data to monitor progress and refine instruction in real time, driving continuous growth and literacy success throughout the district.
