The Monroe One Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Fairport, New York, covers 10 different school districts in the region. Those districts range in size from a single K–12 school building to those with multiple different buildings. Monroe One also contracts with organizations and consultants who present sessions like Lexia® LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling).
At Monroe One, LETRS works as a comprehensive professional learning experience for teachers. It has proven to be a valuable tool for the educators who work closely with students to prepare them for the New York state test and its English Language Arts questions.
In particular, LETRS training is a professional educational experience which educators eagerly share with each other. When a few teachers go through it, they tell their peers. When those peers undergo LETRS training, they pass on their experiences to more educators. And soon, just about everyone wants to get in on LETRS training, and the obvious, proven benefits it brings to students.
