Lexia Learning Partners with MetaMetrics to Offer Lexile Measures from Lexia RAPID Assessment
Lexia RAPID Assessment will report popular reading metric side-by-side with students’ scores in word recognition, academic language, and reading comprehension
BOSTON AND DURHAM, NC (Feb. 20, 2019) – Today, Lexia Learning, a Rosetta Stone® (NYSE: RST) company and MetaMetrics®, developer of the Lexile Framework® for Reading, announced the addition of Lexile® measures for all students who have completed the Lexia® RAPID™ Assessment (RAPID). Lexile reader measures are now available via the class table and the district and school exports in myLexia®, the data reporting platform for educators. The addition of Lexile measures makes RAPID an even more powerful tool for understanding and supporting students’ reading and language skills.
“This partnership gives schools and districts even greater confidence to know they are delivering targeted literacy instruction to meet students where they are,” said Lexia President Nick Gaehde. “Our mission has always been to deliver innovative literacy programs and assessment solutions to help improve teaching and learning. So, we’re very pleased to add the support for instruction that the Lexile Framework provides. Educators and parents have long relied on these measures to help identify appropriate levels of literacy instructional materials. The ability to link performance in RAPID with decisions about what to teach next — and at what level — represents a great benefit for students.”
Lexia® RAPID™ Assessment is a K–12 computer adaptive universal screener that efficiently screens the skills most predictive of end-of-year reading success. Administered up to three times a year, RAPID for Grades K–2 measures students’ foundational skills in the key reading and language domains of Word Recognition, Academic Language and Reading Comprehension. RAPID for Grades 3–12 measures complex knowledge, understanding and application of skills within these domains. In addition, RAPID provides actionable data that identifies the literacy instructional priorities at the district, school, class and student level through the use of immediate scoring and online reports. Based on those profiles, the program generates instructional groups and links to instructional resources.
Lexile measures identify what level of text a student can effectively read and understand. Students in all 50 states and more than 180 countries receive Lexile measures, the most widely used reading metric in the world. Texts are measured on the Lexile scale as well. Over a million books, articles and websites have received Lexile measures. With a Lexile measure, a student can find books that are at an ideal challenge level. Lexile measures range from below 0L for beginning readers and texts to advanced reader abilities and text difficulty, with college and career readiness being 1300L. As a more precise measure of a student’s reading ability than grade level and age, Lexile measures also provide an easy way to monitor reading growth over time.
“We are excited about our new partnership with Lexia Learning,” said Malbert Smith, CEO, president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. “Linking assessment with instruction improves learning – a goal we share with Lexia Learning. Now educators will be able to make even better informed instructional decisions for their K-12 students.”
