Science of Reading and Bilingual Students: Finding Common Ground to Improve Literacy Instruction

The science of reading is a body of research that provides evidence for how the human brain learns to read and the best way to teach reading, but educators need more than just research papers—they need actionable steps for applying the science of reading in their classrooms. In this webinar, Maya Goodall, senior director of Emergent Bilingual curriculum at Lexia®, and Dr. Claude Goldenberg, Nomellini-Olivier professor of education at Stanford University, discuss a working research paper titled “Narrowing Down to Find Common Ground: Shared Agreements for Effective Literacy Instruction in California.”

While the paper they discuss pertains to California policies, there are policies like this all across the U.S. Goodall and Dr. Goldenberg discuss the impetus for creating this paper, what the paper consists of, and the conclusions reached.
