[Testimonial] From No English to Mastering STAAR Reading
With more than 5 million K–12 students in Texas schools and 20% identified as English Language Learners, Lone Star state educators know they must reach a diversity of students.
“In Texas, we have a lot of people who come from other countries for tech jobs,” says Kate Adelmann, North Texas regional coordinator of English language services. “We have newcomers who come and they have very little English.”
Enter Lexia English Language Development™, an English language learning solution created to help Emergent Bilingual students reach their full academic potential through an asset-based approach.
Adelmann and her teachers rely on the actionable data and reports from Lexia English to ensure students are receiving the exact instruction they need. In fact, Lexia English helped one student move from having no English language proficiency to mastering the state’s STAAR Reading assessment, Adelmann says.
“He’s really just taken off and Lexia English has been great for that,” she says.
Adelmann and her teachers plan to celebrate more student success soon.
“We’re looking to celebrate big this summer because of the change in Texas for their (students’) eligibility to reclassify as English proficient,” she says. “We’re going to have a lot of students reclassified which is great and I know that’s because of Lexia English as well as what we do for them. It’s just a wonderful tool.”
