[Testimonial] Core5 Grows Readers and Supports Teachers in Oklahoma District

“All kids are capable of learning to read,” says Misty Eidson, director of elementary curriculum and instruction for Mustang Public Schools in Oklahoma. “We have to meet our kids where they are and grow every kid and provide that individualized support that they need to grow them as readers.”

The student population at Mustang Public Schools has been increasing by about 5% each year. 

“Our greatest challenge right now is all of our new students and meeting them where they are and identifying their needs as they come in,” Eidson says. “We have kids coming to us in third grade who are not yet reading, still learning letters and sounds. We have students coming in who are well above. With Lexia, we are able to meet every child at their individualized level and help grow them from that level toward reading proficiency.”

To help teachers address the growing diversity of student needs, the district adopted Lexia® Core5® Reading, a science of reading-based literacy program that not only provides instruction in core areas of reading, but offers lesson plans and other resources for teacher-led instruction.

Eidson says Lexia® is helping Oklahoma students read and succeed like never before.

“I trust Lexia because it provides all of the different components of reading instruction that we need to be encompassed in a daily reading block,” she says.
