Equipping teachers to apply the principles of the science of reading increases student outcomes and transforms literacy instruction. With the audacious goal of making every child a reader by third grade, district leaders started educators with LETRS training. In particular, Superintendent Dr. Shelly Viramontez sought buy-in from the teachers. Dr. Viramontez did so by pairing educators who had already gone through the training with those who had not.
The result is more than 80% of the district’s teachers have been through LETRS training. By seeing their peers using their LETRS training and succeeding, success has bred more success.
