The Virginia Literacy Act

In 2023, the Virginia Literacy Act was expanded, requiring local school boards to provide literacy instruction for K–8 students that aligns with science-based reading research. This initiative necessitates high-quality professional learning for educators and administrators to develop effective infrastructure and classroom practices. Lexia® is dedicated to supporting Virginia administrators in implementing explicit and systematic literacy instruction with fidelity.

Lexia's professional learning modules offer comprehensive development in the science of reading for all teachers and administrators. These modules are released simultaneously to educator groups, which allows for individualized pacing, and completion time varies based on participant pacing and module content. The training defines the systems and infrastructures necessary to successfully implement a literacy initiative aligned with scientifically based research.

Additionally, Lexia's professional development includes training for identifying dyslexia and instructing students with dyslexia. This focus ensures that educators are equipped to meet the diverse literacy needs of their students, fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment. Through this structured and evidence-based approach, Lexia aims to enhance the literacy outcomes for all students in Virginia, supporting the overarching goals of the Virginia Literacy Act.
