The New York State Department of Education (NYSED) has emphasized the importance of the science of reading in its series of literacy briefs, with Literacy Brief #5 focusing on the elementary years. This brief highlights the need for high-quality instructional materials, Structured Literacy instruction, and engagement with diverse, complex texts.
