New York Educators Adopt Tools for Systemic, Long-Term Impact on Literacy Achievement
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Back to Basics initiative is well underway. The plan ensures students in every school district are taught the foundational skills they need to become proficient readers, and district leaders across the state are revisiting their approach to literacy instruction.
Many New York educators are already on the right path with Lexia® Core5® Reading in their schools. The program’s research-proven, science of reading-based instruction accelerates literacy learning for all students, regardless of demographic. Maya Tucci, school leader at KIPP Tech Valley Primary Charter School says, “Lexia [Core5] does so much for us. It enables us to provide differentiated literacy instruction in small groups because students are so engaged independently. It reinforces fundamental literacy skills that we are teaching . . . and it shows in the data!”
In fact, 82% of students who met usage advanced at least one grade level of material in the 2022–2023 school year. Committed to education’s highest efficacy standards, Core5 boasts a Strong rating from Evidence for ESSA, and 20 studies on Core5 have been published in peer-reviewed journals.
With high-quality instructional materials aligned with instructional best practices from the science of reading, New York districts are seeing results, and educators are raving about it. Download the infographic for a glimpse at how Core5 is helping educators improve literacy rates in New York.
