Lexia PowerUp Literacy: B.E.S.T.-Aligned Self-Guided Tour for Florida Educators

Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® is designed to accelerate literacy gains for Florida students in grades 6–12 who may be at risk for not meeting state standards.

Rooted in the science of reading, PowerUp’s Adaptive Blended Learning model identifies the appropriate starting point for each student across three strands including:

• Word Study: Students develop accuracy, automaticity, and fluency in reading by focusing on reliable and recurring patterns in spoken and written words. Students also practice letter sound patterns with multisyllabic words like those they see in grade-level texts in other content areas.
  
  
• Grammar: Students improve written composition and reading comprehension by focusing on how written language works. They learn how parts of speech function and how parts of sentences convey meaning.
  
  
• Comprehension: Students learning to be independent, strategic readers are presented with skills needed for higher-order text analysis through increasingly complex and appealing texts for adolescent readers.  
  
  

Because adolescent students are expected to have made the leap from learning to read to reading to learn, PowerUp’s targeted approach to addressing individual skill gaps can help educators pinpoint necessary intervention to help students develop the reading and critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in secondary curriculum and beyond.
