Lexia LETRS Empowers ELL Educators in Washington
The science of reading and Emergent Bilinguals—educators have grappled with the connection between this body of research and appropriate instruction for Emergent Bilingual learners for years. As the educational tide shifts toward science-backed instructional practices, understanding how Emergent Bilinguals access language and literacy is top of mind for many educators.
Understanding how LETRS supports English Language Learners is important for students’ academic success. It is purposefully designed to help early-childhood, elementary, and English Language Learner educators and administrators become literacy and language experts in the science of reading. LETRS outlines how to teach the skills required for proficient reading and writing, specifically noting areas where English Learners may need particular emphasis.
Educational leaders have a duty to ensure all students, including Emergent Bilingual (EB) students, receive the academic and cultural support necessary for success.
