Lexia Fits the Bill: Meeting the requirements of the Virginia Literacy Act

Virginia is making a significant investment in high-dosage academic tutoring via the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) enacted by the Virginia Department of Education in 2022 and expanded in 2023. This law requires each local school board to provide a literacy instruction program aligned with science-based reading research and evidence-based practices for K–8 students. 

In this flyer, we detail how Lexia® solutions align with the VLA and support Virginia administrators in implementing these mandates with fidelity for K–5 students and teachers through Lexia® Core5® Reading and Lexia® LETRS®.

Lexia is dedicated to equitably meeting the literacy needs of all students by providing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) that align with standards and the science of reading. These materials incorporate strategies for effective literacy instruction, ensuring that all students receive comprehensive and systematic education. Supplemental programs are also available to enhance core instructional programs during whole-class or small-group instruction.

Professional development in the science of reading is provided for all teachers and administrators, with modules released simultaneously for educator groups to allow individualized pacing. Completion time varies based on participant pacing and module content.
