An Expectations Checklist for Literacy Professional Development in Indiana

Lexia® LETRS® is an Indiana state-approved, highly effective professional learning program that ensures elementary educators receive the support they need in the classroom to make a significant impact on literacy scores.

LETRS provides a comprehensive professional learning course that covers the how, what, and why of literacy acquisition, empowering educators to improve their instructional practices and drive systemic change in literacy instruction.

Based in the science of reading, LETRS aligns with state and national standards. The course models successful practices that motivate and inform all educators. Educators can earn graduate or transcript credits, and the program is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association®. The course is supported by peer-reviewed research and evaluations by external researchers.

With LETRS, educators benefit from in-person sessions and opportunities to engage with facilitators and peers. The course includes time for reflection, feedback, and coaching, and Bridge to Practice activities help educators apply evidence-based literacy concepts in their daily instruction.

More than a quarter of a million educators across all 50 states have participated in LETRS. As of April 2024, over 1,866 educators in Indiana alone have engaged in LETRS to make a difference in their students’ lives and gain the confidence and knowledge to teach all students to read.
