The Relationship of Lexia Core5 Reading and the MCAS Test
This internal research report demonstrates how Lexia® Core5® Reading is making a difference for Massachusetts (MA) elementary students.
Results
Key findings show that 82% of students who reached their end-of-year benchmark in Core5 also achieved Meeting or Exceeding levels on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).
The Correlations between Core5 end level and MCAS scores were significant and fell in the medium range for all grade levels. As students work on higher levels of Core5 content, they also tend to score higher on MCAS. According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the MCAS is required testing for students in grades 3–8 and 10.
On Target Performance Predictor scores in Core5 can be used to forecast performance on the MCAS. Most students (between 75% and 92%) who were On Target at the beginning or the middle of the year achieved Meeting or Exceeding levels according to the MCAS achievement standards.
