Connecting Educator Behavior in Core5 to Student Outcomes
PURPOSE: Blended learning programs provide educators with student data through educator portals (like myLexia). Educators are expected to utilize these data to inform their teaching practices. The aim of this study was to identify patterns of educator portal usage and examine associations between these patterns and student program outcomes.
METHOD: Records of myLexia usage and student outcomes were obtained from 2,000 schools that used Core5 during the 2018-19 school year. A clustering methodology was employed to identify temporal patterns of myLexia usage (logins) common among educators. We then asked whether login clusters were predictive of differences in student outcomes (student usage and progress) by modeling the association between student outcomes and educators from different clusters.
KEY FINDINGS
- Clusters of educators varied in intensity and consistency of myLexia usage across the school year.
- Variations in intensity and consistency of myLexia usage were associated with significant differences in student usage and progress in Core5.
- Educators who had more consistent and initially higher myLexia usage were associated with stronger student outcomes in Core5.
