Removing Accent Bias in the Classroom: Where Technological Excellence Meets Human Intelligence
Emergent Bilinguals need speaking practice to successfully become bilingual or multilingual. However, some of these students don’t have opportunities to speak in the classroom or feel nervous to do so because they speak with an accent. Understanding the history of accents in the classroom and reflecting on potential unconscious biases can help teachers better serve their Emergent Bilingual students.
