An Expectations Checklist for Literacy Professional Development
For decades, teachers have reported that professional development opportunities are neither relevant nor effective. Lexia® LETRS® ensures elementary educators receive effective professional learning that meets their needs in teaching students how to read.
LETRS provides a course based in the science of reading, teaching the how, what, and why of literacy acquisition. This course improves instructional practice and includes the following elements shown to enact long-term systemic change in literacy instruction:
- Aligned to state and national standards
- Models successful practices that inspire educators
- Educators receive graduate or transcript credits
- Accredited by the International Dyslexia Association®
- Evidence-based and supported by peer-reviewed research
LETRS offers flexible learning with both online and in-person sessions to accommodate educators’ schedules. It provides opportunities to interact with facilitators and peers; access demonstration videos; and engage in reflection, feedback, and coaching. Bridge to Practice activities help educators apply evidence-based literacy concepts in their daily instruction.
As Heidi Wagner, district instructional coach at Littleton Public Schools in Colorado, said,
“Having been in the field of education for 20 years—as a primary and intermediate classroom teacher, literacy teacher leader, a building administrator, and an instructional coach at the district level—I can say with absolute certainty that equipping educators with LETRS knowledge has the potential to positively impact the lives of children more than any other professional learning you could offer.”
